Helen’s Bio
Helen’s background in radio, television, print, entrepreneurship, politics, community activist, and self-published author sets her apart from other radio talk show hosts. Her approach is fresh, dynamic, open, diverse, engaging, energetic and exciting, to say the least.
She’s an independent thinker and is becoming nationally known for her involvement in Independent Politics. Helen admits she does lean conservative. Even if you don’t like her, you can’t help but love her. She gives everyone a chance to have a voice. She challenges her guests, asks the tough questions, speaks her mind and takes the heat. Helen is not afraid to let people know where her faith lies. She’s passionate about people.
Helen has the unique ability to bring diverse groups of people together and find common bonds. No matter if you’re a conservative, liberal, entrepreneur, entertainer, politician, business or community leader – Sooner or later you will come head-to-head with Helen. Making History in Politics:
Helen boldly announced her candidacy as the first African-American woman to run for Mayor of Augusta, Ga in 2005. She placed third (just 2 percentage points from the second place candidate), garnering 23% (8,149 votes) of the vote with a campaign war chest of less than $25,000.
Independent Politics
Less than 90 days later, she jumped back in the political fray by running as an Independent (the first ever in Richmond County, Ga.) for the Georgia House of Representatives District 120. Running against a two-term Democrat in a highly Democratic district, she captured 33% (3,262 votes), which, according to political experts, was exceptional. Helen gained national attention when she ran as an Independent, walked the district with a team of people to obtain the required signatures to get her name on the ballot, and was the only Independent candidate in the State of Georgia for 2006 General Election whose name appeared on the ballot.
Helen’s Claim to Fame
Helen's notoriety took place when she went against the grain and endorsed a white neophyte mayoral candidate over the veteran black mayoral candidate during the November 2005 Mayoral Special Election . By the way, that same individual not only won the 2005 election, but received 66% of the vote in the November 2006 General Election for a full four-year term.
